POSITION VACANCY

TITLE OF POSITION:

Executive Dean, College of Architecture and the Built Environment

STATUS: Full-time

DEPARTMENT:

College of Architecture and the Built Environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

Philadelphia University invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Dean of the College of Architecture and the Built Environment.  In Spring 2011, Philadelphia University organized its five schools into three colleges: the College of Design, Engineering and Commerce; the College of Science, Health and the Liberal Arts; and the College of Architecture and the Built Environment.  The college structure further defines Philadelphia University’s commitment to interdisciplinary academic collaboration and transdisciplinary professional practice.  The new Executive Dean will lead the College’s constituent programs in a process of strategic realignment, identifying the ideal balance between interdisciplinary studies and rigorous professional training.  He or she will develop administrative infrastructure and resources to support identified goals, and will work closely with the Provost and other Executive Deans to fulfill Philadelphia University’s vision as a model for professional university education in the 21st century.

Philadelphia University’s College of Architecture and the Built Environment offers unique professional breadth in the setting of a small university located on the edge of a thriving urban environment.  The College of Architecture and the Built Environment, distinguished by its commitment to the integration of theory and practice and collaboration across disciplines, comprises programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation and Visual Studies, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Sustainable Design.  The College offers the 5-year B.Arch and B.LA degrees; 4-year B.S. degrees in Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Interior Design, and Visual Studies; M.S. degrees in Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Interior Architecture, Sustainable Design, and an Architectural Studies/MBA joint degree.   Reporting to the Provost and Dean of Faculty, the Executive Dean will leverage the College’s academic strengths, raise its profile, and attract resources to fuel its growth.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader, administrator and collaborator with a passion for the College and its capacity to grow in quality and visibility.  He or she should be an entrepreneurial innovator with the drive and commitment to realize the full potential of the College.  Although the candidate might not come from the academy, he or she must be familiar and comfortable with its unique culture.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

The appropriate terminal degree or equivalent background and experience is required.
